Islamic State jihadist Tyler Vilus sentenced on appeal to life imprisonment – franceinfo

The French jihadist Tyler Vilus was sentenced Tuesday, September 21 on appeal to life imprisonment, against 30 years at first instance, by the special assize court of Paris. The facts relate to crimes committed between 2013 and 2015 in Syria with the Islamic State group.

Part fighter, squad leader, online proselyte, recruiter and ISIS police member, this “integral jihadist” 31-year-old was arrested at Istanbul airport in the summer of 2015 while returning to Europe to carry out an attack.

The court attached this sentence to the maximum safety period of 22 years considering that, the accused denying part of the facts with which he was accused, “the risk of repetition remains major”. In particular, she found him guilty of having participated in the spring of 2015 in the main street of Shaddadi (eastern Syria) in the public execution of two prisoners, blindfolded and orange jumpsuits.
