6.0 magnitude earthquake near Melbourne, Australia

(CNN) – A 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck near Melbourne in South Australia on Wednesday (local time), according to the Victoria State Emergency Service (Vicses News) news service on Twitter.

“There has been a 6.0 magnitude earthquake with an epicenter near Mansfield in Victoria,” says the Vicses News, in which citizens were asked to “be patient as the lines may be busy.”

Videos on social media show that at least one building suffered minor damage and power lines interrupted in Melbourne’s Central Business District, where some people could be seen on the streets, shaken after the earthquake.

“There is no threat of a tsunami,” Vicses News said in a follow-up tweet.

The United States Geological Survey, USGS, recorded the quake at 5.8.
