Dacia Duster: The new generation will be electrified. And supposedly still cheap – PRAVDA.sk

The concept of electrification and low price somehow do not belong together. However, Dacia claims that the Duster SUV will stay on the ground and even maintain the drive of both axles. However, it will be difficult.

The new Duster is set to hit the market in 2024. So Dacia has relatively enough time to build the car that Romanian customers are used to – robust, both-wheel drive and cheap at the same time. But this time it will be much harder. Much has changed since the arrival of the first generation in 2008. For cheap cars in the era of electrification, the wind no longer blows into the sails. At the same time, it is clear that Duster will not escape it due to emission standards. Nevertheless, Duster product manager Julien Ferry was clear.

“The successor of the current car must be the same car. Its job is to provide a very good value for money, ”said Ferry. He emphasized that Duster’s field skills would be key to his successor. “Dacia will keep the recipe and update it according to customer requirements,” he added. But that seems impossible, because the new Duster will be on the CMF-B platform, similar to the new Sandero, Logan and Jogger. However, this platform does not allow the drive of both axles. And it is not yet possible with the electrified CMF-BEV platform prepared for electric cars of segment A and B, on which pure electric cars can be created, such as the new Renault 5.

So how the Dacia will drive the Duster’s rear axle remains a big mystery. Either it will be a plug-in hybrid like the Captur, which the CMF-B platform allows if a rear electric motor is added. The second possibility is that the Duster 4 × 4 will be transformed into a pure electric car with a pair of electric motors. However, it would have to use the purely electric CMF-EV platform from the new Mégane E-Tech, which would be terribly expensive. However, Dacia seems to have a solution, as Duster’s sibling will also be the new generation of Lady Niva. And that, as already announced, will get a 4 × 4 drive, and even a reduction gearbox.
