The opposition reacts to the establishment of Heger’s working group: The voice speaks of ridicule, Smer turns to Brussels – Topky.sk

An expert working group to deal with the situation in the security forces is a mockery of the rule of law. The non-parliamentary Voice-SD thus responded to the conclusions of the first meeting of the group. According to the party’s negotiations, the groups will not lead to a restoration of confidence in the rule of law, but will cause more harm than good by extremely rapid changes in the law.

“There is no need to change the law for every single problem. It is much more important that the key institutions of the rule of law are occupied by honest people who will enforce the rule of law instead of politics. Roman Mikulec and Daniel Lipšic, for example, are certainly not such people.” objected by the leader of Hlasu-SD and an untreated member of the National Council (NR) of the Slovak Republic Peter Pellegrini.

He is particularly concerned about the possible strengthening of the powers of the special prosecutor’s office. He talks about the concentration of power. He thinks that Lipšic will always be more of a politician than a prosecutor. “If he gets even more powers and any control over his steps is lost, no person in Slovakia will be able to be sure of their rights and freedoms,” added Pellegrini.

It is contrary to democracy

MP Peter Kmec also writes critically about the group on the social network. “The establishment of a special commission to” adjust “the rule of law according to the political mandate of the narrow leadership of the state is contrary to all democratic rules.” Kmec thinks.

At the same time, he noted that the discussion on changing the powers of individual power institutions should take much longer and with the participation of legal leaders, academics or experts in constitutional law. He considers the absence of representatives of the Supreme Court (NS) of the Slovak Republic and other organizations at Monday’s session as a symbol that this procedure has no support among experts.

The establishment of an expert working group was approved last week by the State Security Council in connection with the situation in the security forces. Prime Minister Eduard Heger (OĽANO) expects the group’s first concrete proposals to restore confidence in the rule of law this week. The group has problems identifying, analyzing and proposing solutions.

Fico turns to Brussels and wants them to act

Meanwhile, the opposition Smer-SD has launched a press conference exclusively for the Czech media to inform them about what is happening in Slovakia. According to them, action is needed and they are turning to Brussels. “I call on the European Commission to take action against the Government of the Slovak Republic for subverting the rule of law and violating human rights, which are fundamental values ​​of the functioning of the European Union. We have no other way.” Fico said at the briefing.
