ROME – Australian swimmer Madison Wilson was hospitalized in Italy with COVID-19. The two-time Olympic champion in the 4×100 m freestyle relay had to resign from the weekend races of the International Swimming League in Naples due to illness.

Twenty-seven-year-old Wilson ended up in the hospital, although she was fully vaccinated and adhered to strict covid protocols during the competitions. She hung a photo from a hospital bed on Instagram. “I feel like I’m unlucky, but this is an alarm clock. COVID is a serious thing and when you get it, it can hit you hard. I’d be stupid if I didn’t say it scared me. I’m taking time to rest and I’m I’m sure I’ll be ready to come back soon, ” said a member of the LA Current team on the social network.

Wilson has the worst behind her and expects a full recovery. However, he is still undergoing several examinations at the hospital and will have some time to observe. “Although I have two doses of the vaccine and I followed ISL precautions, the virus found me. I’ve had a few crazy months and I think I was more prone to the disease due to physical and mental exhaustion.” she was quoted by the DPA.

In addition to gold medals at 4×100 m v.sp. at the 2016 and 2020 Olympics, Wilson also won silver in Rio and bronze in Tokyo in the relays. She also has three world champion titles in her collection.
