LONDON – Australian Jarred Gillett will become the first foreign referee to lead an English Football Premier League match.

The 34-year-old native of Queensland will lead the match between Watford and Newcastle on Saturday. The representatives of the competition informed about it.

Gillett started his referee career in the Australian A-League, in which he was declared the best referee of the season five times. From April 2019 he started whistling matches in English lower competitions and before this season he was included in the list of judges for the Premier League.

So far, in the highest English competition, he participated in the management of matches only as a video referee.
