Archbishop Babjak is currently in domestic quarantine. Fortunately, he is vaccinated and has only mild symptoms.

Babjak was in contact with a positively tested bishop from Greece, who was with him at a meeting with the pope in Budapest and on Tuesday (September 14) in Prešov. The Conference of Bishops of Slovakia has not yet stated how many other bishops or priests are in quarantine as well.

“We informed the secretariat of the Conference of Bishops of Slovakia (KBS) about the disease and subsequently all bishops who may have been in contact with Bishop Ján Babjak SJ were informed. They were recommended to undergo preventive testing for the presence of COVID-19,” said Michal Pavlišinovič, a spokesman for the Prešov Archdiocese.

A spokesman for the Conference of Bishops of Slovakia, Martin Kramara, confirmed that KBS had also informed the Vatican in this regard. During his visit to the Holy Father in Slovakia (September 12-15), Babjak took part in several events at which the head of the Catholic Church was also present.

At the same time, they ask people to be alert to the common cold that comes with changing weather, as the symptoms of COVID-19 may be similar. There were about 50,000 people at the event in Prešov.
