The archbishop was in contact with the positive bishop of Greece last week on the Pope’s visit on Sunday in Budapest and on Tuesday in Prešov.

There, Babjak and František celebrated the Holy Liturgy of John Chrysostom.

Bishop Babjak went for the PCR test on Saturday after he began to show symptoms of a cold on Friday.

They immediately warned everyone to test themselves

The information was confirmed by Michal Pavlišinovič, a spokesman for the Archbishopric of Prešov.

He explained that last Thursday, Metropolitan Babjak learned about the positive testing of the Greek archbishop, with whom he was at the International Eucharistic Congress in Budapest from September 4 to 8, and subsequently the Greek archbishop also visited Pope Francis with a visit to Slovakia.

Immediately after the positive test, Babjak retreated to the domestic quarantine.

“We informed the secretariat of the Conference of Bishops of Slovakia (KBS) about the illness and subsequently all bishops who may have been in contact with Bishop Ján Babjak SJ were also informed. They were advised to undergo preventive testing for the presence of covid-19, “said Pavlišinovič.

He added that in the case of guests who formed a group called KBS, there should be about 35 people.

“Not everyone was in close contact with our lord. However, they were also asked to consider a PCR test for the presence of covid-19. It should also be prevented by anyone who has had close contact with the bishop, “the spokesman added.

Representatives of the Greek Catholic Archbishopric of Prešov also contacted the regional public health office in this connection.

“We have been informed that if we are vaccinated, quarantine is not necessary,” Pavlišinovič told SITA.

“All from the group of the Conference of Bishops of Slovakia who may have been in contact with Mons. Babjak, we informed about the occurrence of a positive case. We ask people to be aware of the common cold that comes with change weather, because the symptoms of covid can be similar, “said Martin Kramara, a spokesman for the Conference of Bishops of Slovakia (KBS) TVnoviny.sk.

As the portal added, how many other bishops and priests are in quarantine, KBS has not yet commented, and it is questionable whether the pope himself should remain in quarantine.

Kramara confirmed to TASR that KBS had already informed the Vatican in this regard.
