THE ANGELES. The comedy series Ted Lasso and the drama series Koruna became the winners of the 73rd annual American Emmy Awards on Sunday night in Los Angeles.

The trend of previous years, in which streaming platforms are being promoted in the television sector, continued, as the former was produced by Apple TV + (it won a total of seven awards) and the latter by Netflix (11 awards).

Netflix also produced the best miniseries of the year, the Women’s Gambit (11 awards).

The crown was appreciated in all acting categories

A series by Ted Lasso about an American football coach who turns upside down in England football club, was with 20 nominations one of the favorites of the gala evening.

Jason Sudeikis was named Best Actor in a Comedy Series, with Brett Goldstein and Hannah Waddingham scoring in supporting roles.

The Koruna series, which has been running for four seasons, has won awards in all four acting categories. Gillian Anderson was the first to be awarded in a supporting role for her portrayal of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. The award in the men’s category went to Tobias Menzies, who plays Prince Phillip in the series.

The best actress in the lead role in the drama series was Olivia Colman, who played the British Queen Elizabeth II. Josh O’Connor won an Emmy in the men’s category for portraying the Queen’s son, Prince Charles. He has already been awarded a Golden Globe for this role.

The Koruna series also scored in the categories of best director and best screenplay.

After last year’s largely virtual gala dinner caused by a coronavirus pandemic, which took place in an empty hall and the awards were joined by video conference, the Emmy Award returned to the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles this year in front of an audience. However, participation was limited to nominees and their entourage, who had to be vaccination against the disease Covid-19.

The prestigious Emmy Awards, considered the “Television Oscars”, have been awarded by the American Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (ATAS) since 1949.
