Russia, university shooting: 8 dead, killer killed

At least 8 people died and ten were injured after a student opened fire at Perm University in western Siberia. The news of the five victims was given by the Russian investigative commission, while the Ministry of Health gave an account of the ten injured, some shot by gunfire and others jumping from the second floor of the building to escape the killer. The student who shot the shooting was killed. The young man “was neutralized”, according to the Russian media, after the news of his arrest was initially given. According to the spokeswoman, Svetlana Petrenko, “eight people died and many more were injured”. It is, as Sputnik reported, a still provisional balance sheet.
The assailant of the campus would have been identified – the Telegram Bazn channel, considered close to security agencies, said – as Timur Bekmansurov 18, enrolled in the first year of jurisprudence. Bekmansurov, according to the Perm news site, 59.ru, allegedly left a Facebook post before taking action in which he anticipated the attack and the motives. “It was not a terrorist attack. I am not a member of extremist organizations. Nobody knew what I would do. I organized everything by myself”, the text of the post. Bekmamsurov speaks of himself as a person “overwhelmed by hatred”. He has also planned the attack for some time. The governor of the Perm region, Dmitry Makhonin, meanwhile, confirms that “one of the assailants” of the university campus has been neutralized and announces that the search for possible accomplices is underway. “We are verifying the information of possible accomplices. The students may have been confused because of the fear, the shooting has stopped,” he said in an interview with the Tass agency. Meanwhile, a crisis center has been opened on the site of the shooting, the university said.
