France releases 100 million euros in aid for Afghanistan – Franceinfo

France will contribute 100 million euros to the emergency plan drawn up by the United Nations to deal with the humanitarian emergency in Afghanistan, Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian announced Monday (September 13th).

As the Taliban have regained power in the country, the situation is becoming critical for millions of Afghans, already affected by an acute drought and the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic. According to the UN, in the absence of support, almost the entire Afghan population (97%) is at risk of falling below the poverty line next year, compared to 72% today.

“Nearly half of the population is now in danger. Including more than 4 million women and nearly 10 million children. Our responsibility is to be by their side in this new ordeal.“, declared the head of the French diplomacy during a high-level ministerial meeting, organized in Geneva, intended to raise emergency financial aid for Afghanistan.
