Covid Gb vaccine, green light for 12-15 year olds: a dose for them

Even children between the ages of 12 and 15 must be offered the opportunity to be vaccinated against covid in Great Britain, the chief medical officers (CMO) have established. The decision, communicated to the Minister of Health, Sajid Javid, by letter, was taken, explained Chris Witty, after considering “what will be the effects of this step on contacts in schools and on education”. “The final decision of the government will come shortly,” said a spokesman for the Ministry of Health, quoted by the Guardian. A single dose of the Pfizer vaccine will be offered to children “as soon as possible,” said Witty’s deputy to the CMO, Jonathan Van-Tam. About three million children are affected by this new step in the fight against covid. Administration of the vaccine is expected to take place in schools.The CMO asked the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunization, which last week opposed the vaccine recommendation for 12-15 year olds, to determine whether a second dose will be needed once that more data will be available internationally, therefore not before the start of the spring semester.
