BRATISLAVA – Slovak fighter Ivan Buchinger became the champion of pen weight (up to 66 kg) in the Oktagon MMA organization. In the main match of the Oktagon 27 tournament at the Ondrej Nepel Stadium in Bratislava, he defeated compatriot Vojtech Barborík after five rounds for points. For 35-year-old Buchinger, this is the second title belt in the organization after winning the first place in light weight (up to 70 kg) in January.

Buchinger’s opponent Barborík did not meet the weight limit, when he had 0.4 kg more and lost the chance to win the title. He also lost 20 percent of his opponent’s paycheck. In the five-round title match, the more experienced Buchinger prevailed, but Barborík did not allow him to “end it.”

The actors performed a match that thrilled the spectators and organizers, including promoter Ondřej Novotný: “At the moment, we probably all feel that there was nothing better on Czechoslovak soil.”

Buchinger is the first fighter in the history of the Oktagon MMA organization with title belts in two categories. After the triumph over Barborík, he also received a bonus for the performance of the evening. “Brutal match, hat down in front of Vojta. I didn’t think he would last that long. I thought I would catch him in the fourth, maximum in the fifth round. When he pushed me on the cage, I felt his strength, but he didn’t hit me much. I’m glad I have a second belt, but the third one will fit me somewhere, ” encountered the possibility of inviting the holder of the title to 77 kg Czech David Kozma.

The next Oktagon MMA tournament with serial number 28 is already on the program in two weeks on Saturday, September 25, in Prague.
