Cristiano Ronaldo scores two goals on his return to Manchester United

(CNN) – Cristiano Ronaldo scored two goals this Saturday in his first comeback game for Manchester United against Newcastle United in the Premier League.

The Portuguese superstar rejoined the club after saying goodbye to Juventus this summer. Ronaldo scored 118 goals in 292 games during his previous six-year stint with Manchester United before leaving for Real Madrid in 2009.

During the first half of his second debut, the 36-year-old delighted local fans, finishing off a rebound from young Manchester United superstar Mason Greenwood.

True to form, Ronaldo raced to the corner of Old Trafford for his now famous “Siuuuu” celebration.

However, this start took a turn after the break, when Javier Manquillo leveled for Newcastle after a quick counterattack.

However, Ronaldo once again demonstrated why he returned to Manchester, scoring his second goal of the game with a powerful shot to give United the lead once again.

Ronaldo’s teammate in Portugal, Bruno Fernandes, extended Manchester United’s lead with a shot fired about 30 meters from goal before Jesse Lingard scored to make it 4-1.

The most popular in town

It was the game every Manchester United fan wanted to see: Ronaldo’s return.

Jerseys bearing his name and the famous No. 7 flew off the shelves and the stands at Old Trafford were packed with fans waiting to catch a glimpse of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

The excitement grew even more when, an hour before the start of the game, it was announced that Ronaldo would start.

The roar that welcomed him onto the field before the kickoff nearly lifted the roof of the famous stadium, and Ronaldo’s first touches in Manchester United’s red uniform were hailed as if he had scored a goal.

Fans only had to wait until shortly before halftime to get what they had come to see: Ronaldo scoring once again for his club.

A good job by England’s Greenwood resulted in Newcastle’s Freddie Woodman saving the shot, only for it to fall at Ronaldo’s feet and score his first goal for the club, 12 years and 124 days later.

In celebration, Ronaldo delighted fans by holding his now-usual celebration, where he jumps, spins, and spreads his arms while exclaiming, “Siuuu.”

But after halftime, Newcastle proved they weren’t going to go down without a fight.

Led by former United player Steve Bruce, some deft counterattacks threatened to level the game, before Manquillo’s final shot finally restored parity.

It didn’t last long though, as Ronaldo proved once again why he is the top scorer in men’s international soccer.

A pass between the lines from Luke Shaw landed at his feet, which passed between Woodman’s legs and into goal for his second goal of the game.

A marvelous goal from Fernandes extended the lead to two before Lingard made it 4-1 on a marvelous team play.
