NEW YORK – Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic advanced to the singles semifinals at the final grand slam tournament of the US Open season. In New York, he eliminated Italian Matteo Berrettini, who finished sixth 5: 7, 6: 2, 6: 2, 6: 3, and only two victories separate him from winning the calendar Grand Slam.
German tennis player Alexander Zverev made it to the men’s singles semifinals at the US Open grand slam tournament. Last year’s New York finalist dealt with South African Lloyd Harris 7: 6 (6), 6: 3, 6: 4 as the four in the quarterfinals. His semi-final opponent will be the winner of the duel between the highest-ranked Serb Novak Djokovic and the Italian Matteo Berrettini.
Harris got the start of the match with Zverev. At 4: 3, after the winning return, he broke the German serve and went to serve for the victory in the set. However, the game equalized to 5: 5 and forced the secretary. Harris led 6: 5 in it and had the advantage of service, but the ending belonged to Zverev. The Olympic champion from Tokyo got on a horse and at the beginning of the second act he built a decisive lead 3: 0 after a quick break.
Zverev had a high percentage of success in the first serve, making fewer unforced errors in exchanges. At the beginning of the third set, he bounced Harris to 4-0. The South African still reduced to 3: 4, but Zverev has already reached the elite quartet and stretched the winning streak to 16 matches. “I’m glad it was in three sets. Lloyd played and at the end of the third set he started performing unreal blows. The 4: 3 game was important, in which I averted the breakball and kept the service,” Zverev said in the first reaction. For Harris, participating in the quarterfinals is already a life success at one of the Big Four events.
