INFOGRAPHICS. Vaccination against Covid-19: what the third dose figures say – franceinfo

A week after the official launch of the Covid-19 vaccination recall campaign, the health authorities publish the first figures. This is the number of people who received a third injection, those who contracted the virus and received a second booster dose are therefore not counted.. According to those data, posted online by Public Health France, nearly 118,000 French people have had the right to their third injection since Wednesday, September 1, the date of the launch of this recall campaign.

But, in fact, more than 140,000 people had already received a third dose by the end of August, as shown in the graph below. This difference is explained by the fact that the High Authority for Health (HAS) had recommended the injection of a third dose for people with immunosuppression from the start. April 30. Thanks to this exception, more than 117,000 people had received a third injection as of August 23, as the Directorate General of Health (DGS) had communicated to the newspaper at the time. Release (article for subscribers). Public Health France also specifies that the number of third doses may include “input errors”, especially in spring, as the newspaper reminds us The Parisian.

At the end of August, the HAS reassessed its recommendations. It now prescribes an additional injection to all people 65 years of age and over, as well as to those at risk of severe forms. A recall campaign for these categories of the population was therefore launched on September 1. Already concerned in the spring, the immunocompromised will therefore be entitled to a fourth dose.

The vast majority of these booster shots should take the form of a third dose. In fact, the number of third daily injections marks an increase since September 1, compared to the previous days. From 1,100 to 1,300 during the summer, the daily number of third doses injected has exceeded 20,000 since the start of the school year, as shown in the graph below.

Another indicator, which this time will distinguish all the people who have benefited from a recall, is due to be published shortly. It will include, in addition to the third injections, people fully vaccinated with one dose because they had contracted Covid-19, or who had received the Janssen single-dose vaccine, but also immunocompromised people who must receive a fourth dose.

For now, the launch of the booster campaign does not seem to have an impact on the total number of daily vaccinations, which continues to decline, as our graph below illustrates. According to Public Health France, 73% of the population had received, as of September 7, at least a first dose of vaccine against Covid-19. In addition, 68% had a complete vaccination schedule.
