After several days of hot weather, severe thunderstorms are announced for the night of Wednesday 8 to Thursday 9 September 2021 in Toulouse and Haute-Garonne announcement Meteo France.

More broadly, many departments in Occitanie should be affected.

Heavy rains, localized hailstorms

These thunderstorms “will be mainly associated with heavy rains, with accumulations over the episode (poorly mobile and successive storm cells) which can locally reach 50 to 60 mm (ie 50 to 60 liters of water per m²), more particularly in Midi-Pyrénées. In the south of the Tarn where the stormy rains will be more lasting, the accumulations could approach 100 mm by the end of next night ”, warns Météo France, which adds:

Wind gusts will not be the main phenomenon and will generally remain below 60 or 70 km / h. Local hailstorms are likely.

Orange vigilance in 9 departments of Occitanie

Consequence, Météo France has placed the Haute-Garonne in orange vigilance thunderstorms. This vigilance will begin shortly after 3 p.m. and will be applied all night from Wednesday to Thursday.

Eight other departments of Occitanie are also placed in orange vigilance: Hautes-Pyrénées, Ariège, Tarn, Tarn-et-Garonne, Lot, Aveyron, Aude and Gers.
