RÚVZ wants to include the Rožňava district in the red phase
In the past two weeks, the Regional Office of Public Health (RÚVZ) based in Rožňava has seen a more significant increase in new cases of COVID-19. There are two outbreaks within the district, but the disease is also spreading in the community. This was stated by the regional hygienist Jozef Varga, stating that the anti-epidemic commission unanimously proposed that the Rožňava district be included in the red color of the COVID vending machine.
“In the Rožňava district, we recorded an increased number of cases of COVID-19 at the end of the 34th week. Due to the slightly increased number of positives, we decided to massively increase PCR testing. At the same time, we have identified as a possible risk the return of people from vacation and the beginning of the school year, “ Varga explained. He added that an increased number of positive cases were recorded in the district during the 35th week, thanks to contact tracing.
Within the district, hygienists currently register two outbreaks. The disease spread among the kitchen staff of the Rožňava Hospital as well as among the teachers of the Secondary Vocational Technical School in Rožňava. Catering in the hospital is provided by substitute staff, the secondary school has switched to a distance form of education.
They can’t afford waiting
“Out of the number of 67 positive cases in the Rožňava district in the 35th calendar week, we record 16 cases in connection with an outbreak in a hospital and 11 cases in a secondary school. Other cases are rather sporadic or familial and have supported us in our decision to propose an extraordinary tightening of the COVID machine, as these are no longer limited or imported diseases, but testify to community-based transmission. ” said the regional hygienist.
RÚVZ statistics show that the majority of new cases of COVID-19 are unvaccinated patients, the proportion of those vaccinated in new cases is approximately 33 percent. “It should be pointed out that, as a result of the epidemiological inquiry, we have found that vaccinated people are often asymptomatic or with mild symptoms, with the unvaccinated having an increasingly severe symptom.” added Varga.
According to the regional hygienist, they are better prepared in the district for an increase in cases than in the first or second wave of a new coronavirus pandemic. Nevertheless, the RÚVZ proposes to include the district in the red color of the COVID vending machine, does not recommend organizing any mass events and calls on parents to use the possibility of self-testing children in schools.
“In a situation like this, if the situation is rapidly deteriorating, we cannot afford to wait a few days. It is important for the population to understand that we are not taking stricter measures in order to restrict them in a targeted way, but in order to protect their health and, above all, the health of the most at-risk groups. “ concluded Varga.
