7:06 WORLD – A judge in the US state of Ohio has ruled that a hospital cannot be forced to provide unverified treatment to a patient with Covid-19. This case concerns the antiparasitic ivermectin, which some doctors use in patients to treat covid, despite warnings from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other professional institutions.

As AFP reported on Tuesday, Judge Gregory Howard recently ordered West Chester Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, to give a 51-year-old hospitalized patient, Jeff Smith, ivermectin as prescribed by his doctor as part of his covid treatment. Smith has been linked to artificial lung ventilation since August 1 and his chances of survival are less than 30 percent, unnamed judicial sources added.

However, Judge Michael Oster changed a court order issued by his colleague Howard on Monday. In his reasoning, Oster stated that although “everyone involved wants Jeff Smith’s condition to improve”, the medical community as a whole does not support the use of ivermectin in the treatment of covid and states from existing evidence that it is not effective in treating the disease.

6:30 WORLD – There have been 13,565 coronavirus infections in Germany in the last 24 hours. This is a similar increase as a week ago (13,531).

The seven-day incidence, which shows the number of newly infected per 100,000 population in the last seven days, fell slightly from 83.8 to 82.7. A week ago, it reached a value of 75.7.
