The bar is not very high at this 2021 Munich Motor Show since the entire Stellantis group shines there by its absence, but the electric Renault 5 is one of the French stars of this new German automotive event alongside the MéganeE. It must be said that it plays wonderfully with the nostalgic fiber by admirably taking up many aesthetic elements of the original R5 born in the 70s. Admittedly, it is still a concept but we are promised a version marketed at the line very close, even if it will be necessary to wait until the first half of 2024.

However, the datasheet has both feet firmly planted in the 21st century since it is an electric developed on the CMF-BEV platform, an evolution of the CMF-B discovered with the Clio and brought to be produced in millions of copies while also being used by Dacia. Enough to drastically reduce costs, which seems to be on the first line of Renault’s specifications, with the aim of making the electric Renault 5 an accessible model. So light years away Mini and Fiat 500 overpriced.

The concept is full of tasty details reminiscent of its predecessor.

We find the same trend with the powertrain which should take the technical sheet of the Renault Zoe : a 136 hp electric motor and a 52 kWh battery with an advertised range of 400 km. Very largely sufficient for a city car. Where the evolution will take place is in terms of recharging since it will be possible to reach 80% in 30 minutes, or even 10 minutes in a second time, in 2026.

Renault waited until the second day of the Munich Motor Show press days to exhibit this R5 and this is due to two reasons: first to devote the entire stand yesterday to the electric Renault Mégane E-Tech and therefore to be able to have enough room to exhibit no less than four vintage R5s, including the electric, already, the Le Car Van and a TX.
