Slovak tennis player Filip Polášek and Australian John Peers made it to the semifinals of the doubles at the grand slam US Open. In the quarterfinals, the French tournament triplets Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut eliminated 6: 3, 6: 2 as the eight.

Polášek and Peers had a great start to the match, when after a quick break they built a decisive 3-0 lead in the first set. They served well and surpassed the opponents even on the return.

In the second act at 3: 3, the Slovak-Australian tandem had to go through a tie when Polášek was served. The Slovak doubles specialist kept the service, in the next game, together with Peers, they broke the Frenchmen and they already brought the match to a successful end.

Polášek and Peers started cooperating in the summer at tournaments overseas after the Slovak Davis Cup representative broke up with the Croatian Ivan Dodig, who triumphed at the Australian Open in February.

In the semifinals of the US Open, they will compete against the winners of the duel between the British-Brazilian pair Jamie Murray, Bruno Soares and the Spanish-Argentine pair Marcel Granollers, Horacio Zeballos.

The Dutch qualifier finished

Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev became the first men’s singles semifinalist at the US Open grand slam tournament.

The New York finalist from 2019 defeated Dutch Botica van de Zandschulp 6: 3, 6: 0, 4: 6, 7: 5 in the quarterfinals. His semi-final opponent will be the winner of the duel between the Canadian Felix Auger Aliassime and the Spanish Carlos Alcaraz.

Medvedev confirmed the role of the favorite against the Dutch qualifier from the beginning. In the first set, after two breaks, he built a decisive lead of 5: 1. The Russian served well, in exchanges he was able to push his opponent on the defensive, he made a minimum of unforeseen mistakes.

The second act was also clearly directed by Medvedev, who gave Van de Zandschulp a “canary”. In the third set, the Dutchman relaxed, started to take more risks and, thanks to a break in the fifth game, got him to his advantage. In the end of the fourth, however, Medvedev celebrated the success.
