According to the court, the punishment that the entrepreneur is already serving in another criminal case is sufficient and fulfills the purpose of protecting society. He again placed the entrepreneur in the execution of a custodial sentence with a minimum degree of guarding. “The court took into account mitigating circumstances such as the confession, regret or payment of the damage,” appointed by the judge. The court saw no reason for the forfeiture of the property proposed by the prosecutor’s office.

The verdict is not yet final, the prosecutor has filed an appeal in the case. “I consider the decision to be legal, I assume that my client is satisfied with the verdict,” stated for the media the lawyer of the businessman Peter Filip.

The Bratislava Regional Prosecutor’s Office indicted the entrepreneur at the end of September 2020, for the crime of reducing taxes and insurance premiums. Police accused him again in April 2019, shortly after his first conviction. The allegations concerned the purchase of apartments in the Five Star Residence apartment complex in Bratislava. He bought them for about 12 million euros, while the actual amount was reportedly lower. The entrepreneur unjustifiably claimed VAT in 2012.

In March 2019, the entrepreneur in Bratislava sentenced the entrepreneur to an unconditional five-year prison sentence in the first criminal case of non-payment of taxes and insurance premiums. The sentence is served in the institution with a minimum degree of guarding. At the same time, his property was confiscated in favor of the state.
