KOŠICE. The number of hospitalized patients with the disease is gradually increasing in the Louis Pasteur University Hospital (UNLP) in Košice covid-19. They also recorded the death of a patient with the disease on Friday.
Most of the current patients were not vaccinated, hospital spokeswoman Monika Krišková informed on Monday.
Two to four patients with covid-19 were hospitalized at UNLP in June and July.
“Their number started to increase slightly in August, now in September we have already hospitalized 27 patients with covid-19 and on Friday we recorded our first death. We can see how the situation is starting to change, it is similar to last autumn, just one month in advance, because we had a similar number of patients in October 2020, “said the General Director of UNLP Ján Slávik.
They had to reprofile
There are 18 patients in the clinic of infectology and travel medicine. However, in connection with the epidemiological situation, workplaces at the UNLP were reprofiled again over the weekend.
“After three months, we had to reopen the pavilion of the pneumology and phthisiology clinic on the premises on Rastislavova street for the covid patients. There are currently five hospitalized patients. After a long time, we also have covid patients in serious condition, four are connected to artificial lung ventilation in the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care (OAIM), the other four patients need the support of high-flow oxygen, “added Slávik.
Most patients were not vaccinated
One of the critically ill patients is aged 50 to 60 years, the others are over 60 years old.
“We are watching as the situation begins to replicate last year’s development. Almost all the patients we admitted to our ward were not vaccinated. I am convinced that if they were vaccinated, they would not have had such a serious course of covid-19 disease, “stated the primary OAIM Ján Michlík.
Among the current 27 patients, two were vaccinated with only the first dose and one was fully vaccinated. Not all other patients were vaccination against covid-19.
“We have given almost 97,000 doses of vaccines at UNLP so far, which is the best way to protect our health and the health of our loved ones,” he said.
