These anti-mosquito bollards made in France and ecological have been a real success internationally – Demotivateur

Two French people have created mosquito bollards capable of killing 90% of mosquitoes within a radius of 60 meters. Respectful of the environment and connected, they have already been installed on four continents and make it possible to fight against the proliferation of the tiger mosquito.

Simon Lillamand and Pierre Bellgambi are two childhood friends from Camargue. Economist and engineer, they were challenged by a scientific article written by Doctor Brigitte Poulin, in Arles, which traced the environmental impacts of the means used to fight against mosquitoes. Indeed, many anti-mosquitoes contain insecticides harmful to the environment and biodiversity.

Faced with this problem, Simon and Pierre decided to create their company called Techno BAM, in order to find a responsible mosquito control solution. This is how they invented mosquito repellent terminals called Qista, which are both efficient and environmentally friendly.

90% of mosquitoes killed within 60 meters

The mosquito bollards created by the two friends work like a trap and are capable of killing 90% of mosquitoes present within a radius of 60 meters around the terminal. These results were obtained thanks to the collaboration of engineers with the Tour du Valat Research Institute and the Camargue Regional Park, who experimented with these mosquito traps.

In one month, the terminals captured 7,800 mosquitoes per day, including 12 different species. Thus, the reproductive cycle of these insects has significantly decreased and the number of bites has decreased by 88% within a radius of 30 to 60 meters.

Ecological mosquito repellent terminals

This new invention is completely respectful of the environment since no insecticide is used to kill mosquitoes. The system of these mosquito repellents mimics human respiration by releasing recycled carbon dioxide into the air, which attracts mosquitoes. When the latter approach, an olfactory lure simulating body odor is released, while it is lactic acid. When the female mosquito, which is the source of the bites, is near the terminal, she is sucked into a trap and can no longer leave it.

In addition, the stations are equipped with solar panels to recharge them with energy and make them autonomous. Finally, only female mosquitoes are attracted to these devices. Thus, bees, butterflies and ladybugs are not in danger.

Fighting the tiger mosquito

These mosquito repellent terminals are efficient, ecological, but also connected. Indeed, they can collect data to fight against the proliferation of the tiger mosquito, a dangerous insect that can transmit deadly viruses such as dengue or chikungunya.

Today, the spread of the tiger mosquito is more and more important in France, because it is estimated that this insect is present on 70% of the French territory.

“It is not just a trap but an anti-vector prevention tool. The terminal also offers a real monitoring system in real time thanks to geolocated sensors which analyze the volume of mosquitoes captured and the current and future levels of infestations. These data are then crossed with the meteorological and environmental changes in the immediate vicinity of each device. The competent authorities, informed of the levels of infestation, can then quantify the mosquito populations in order to improve and anticipate their movements in order to prioritize the actions to be implemented in order to optimize the capture ”, said Pierre Raviole, deputy mayor of Arles in charge of agriculture.

You will understand, these mosquito repellent terminals made in France have everything to please, and they have already seduced several countries, such as the Ivory Coast and Senegal. In France, 50 cities have already ordered anti-mosquito terminals such as Toulon, Marseille, Toulouse or Hyères, where 350 terminals have been installed.
