Renault today introduced the all-new electric Megane.

The full name is called Megane E-TECH Electric and for some time it will be produced in parallel with the combustion versions. But it is the future. The future of the Megane model line and the carmaker itself.

The vehicle retains its compact dimensions and at 4.21 meters long it wants to offer enough space for the crew. It is clear to see that the car is optically taller, it looks like a crossover, but the space between the cab floor and the asphalt is filled with batteries rather than ground clearance. However, the designers managed to integrate the more powerful chassis well into the overall visuals and, with the help of proven fins (such as the black rim between the wheels), made the disadvantage almost an advantage. The essence of this solution is the fact that the batteries are only 11 cm high, so the car does not look like it was trying to ride on an inflatable. A nice wheelbase with a length of 2.7 meters, as well as a total height of only 1.5 meters, also helps to maintain proportionality. The design is underlined by large 18 to 20-inch wheels.

The engine of the vehicle is completely new, it has developed within the Alliance and the cooperation of individual partners. Thanks to the new powertrain, the new Renault Megane E-TECH Electric delivers up to 160 kW and 300 Nm of torque. This variant allows acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 7.4 seconds. The maximum speed will be limited to 160 km / h. There are four levels of regenerative braking. The basic version offers 96 kW and 250 Nm. In both cases, the engine is also unique in weight (145 kg with a gearbox). It is 10% lighter than the one currently installed in the ZOE model. As before, Renault is now building on an electrically driven synchronous motor (EESM) and not on a permanent magnet motor. This engine does not ask for precious metals and is cheaper to manufacture, which will help keep the price of the car at an interesting level.

The new Renault Megane E-TECH Electric offers two battery capacities: 40 kWh with a range of 300 km and 60 kWh with a range of over 470 km (1624 kg). The batteries are guaranteed for 8 years. Renault Megane E-TECH Electric is compatible with all AC charging infrastructures. However, only versions with a larger battery will also have fast DC charging available. Its maximum power will be 130 kW. As usual, with the Megane electric model, lower battery versions will be associated with weaker engines. However, for corporate customers, Megane will have a version with more battery capacity but lower engine power. The lowest battery and engine power equipment called Standard Charge (private customer) will have a charge with a power of max. 7 kW. Higher version max 22 kW. Until all versions of the EV60 go to quick chargers.

Thanks to the CMF-EV platform, Renault Megane E-TECH Electric uses its benefits to achieve a solid ratio of size and space. Despite its smaller overall size, the Megane Electric offers an interior space similar to the Megane with an internal combustion engine.

In the interior, the car’s designers were inspired by the furniture and used mainly recycled materials. The dashboard is covered with textile, in the highest class with artificial leather. The seats are also made of recycled materials.

Although the digital instrument panel is 321 cm2 in size, the central display is up to 452 cm2. In both cases, these are really large displays, the motto of which is the number of pixels and especially the content they display. It is a completely new multimedia system OpenR Link. It’s software based on the Android Automotive OS, so the system offers all Google applications and truly in-depth smartphone integration and remote updates.

To make the infotainment experience more intense, the top-of-the-line equipment features a 410 W Harman Kardon audio system. the customer will be able to enjoy it really thoroughly.

Megane E-TECH Electric is equipped with “LIVING native” lighting, which means that it comes to life when the driver approaches it. It has automatic door handles that extend as soon as the driver approaches or as soon as the vehicle is unlocked.

Customers can order the vehicle from February 2022, the sale of the new vehicle will start from March 2022.
