Mercedes makes lightning talk with four new electric car models – 01net.com

A few hours before the opening of the IAA, the new motor show in Munich, Mercedes unveiled its next electric vehicles. After EQC, EQA and the very recent EQS, the star manufacturer unveiled not one but four zero-emission vehicles. As a result, Mercedes will offer, from 2022, an electric alternative in all the segments in which it is present with a thermal engine.

EQE, the electric Class E

The newcomers, the EQE, the Maybach EQS, the EQG concept and the EQS AMG embody a major acceleration in the German giant’s electric strategy.
Indeed, although all of these vehicles belong to the premium segment, they do not target the same public or the same uses. The most strategic model for the manufacturer is undoubtedly the EQE.

This little sister of the EQS uses almost identically the lines and technical characteristics of its predecessor. It would be almost tempting to talk about miniature EQS as the two vehicles look alike.
The EQE is slightly smaller (26cm shorter in length) and is considered a four-door, compared to five for the electric S-class. The passenger compartment of the “small” road obviously takes up the famous Hyperscreen, the 141 cm slab which conceals three large screens from end to end of the dashboard.
The Mercedes EQE will be launched in a first 350 version with a 215 kW engine (530 Nm of torque) placed on the rear axle and completed with a 90 kW battery (or 660 km of potential autonomy). The electric version of the E-Class is not expected to hit our roads until mid-2022.

An electric AMG, finally

The EQS AMG is also a variation of the grand tourer that we were able to try this summer. But unlike EQE, it is not a question of reducing its dimensions but on the contrary of increasing its performance. Indeed, the abbreviation AMG clearly indicates that the vehicle falls into the sports division of the manufacturer, thus becoming the first sports electric car from Mercedes. From then on, it will compete with the Tesla Model S Plaid, but also with the Porsche Taycan and the Audi RS e-tron GT.

This EQS AMG 53 4Matic + obviously takes the basis of the traditional EQS by adding some performance elements, as well as more sport-oriented finishes and even a specific sound environment. But it is of course on the side of the engine that it is necessary to look.
In its most muscular configuration, understand with the AMG Dynamic Plus package, engine power reaches 560 kW and maximum torque 1020 Nm. Under these conditions, 0 to 100 km / h is achieved in about 3.4 seconds. Informed observers will notice that Mercedes’ sports car is less swift than its direct competitors, probably due to a heavier weight.

The legendary electrified G-Class

The last two electric novelties from Mercedes concern more confidential models, but no less important. The Maybach EQS is an ultra-luxurious SUV concept intended primarily for specific markets such as China or the United States.
Nevertheless, it is interesting in more than one way. On the one hand, because it inaugurates one of the new modular platforms on which the brand’s future electric SUVs will be built, but also, on the other hand, because it gives indications on how Mercedes defines luxury for its next vehicles.
For the moment the manufacturer with the star does not communicate either on the technical characteristics of the vehicle (except on a range of around 600 km), or on its date of marketing. And for good reason, it should be preceded in 2022 by an SUV version of the EQS.

Finally, the presentation of Mercedes ended with the announcement of the electrification of its G-Class, in other words the brand’s all-terrain car. This is one of the icons of the manufacturer, its 100% electric variation could therefore have been surprising, but the concept skilfully takes up the emblematic design of the vehicle while making it evolve. The concept presented yesterday in Munich is finally quite successful, the final version scheduled for 2023 should therefore be largely inspired by it.

With its opening conference of the IAA Mobility, Mercedes strikes a big blow. The manufacturer had expressed its desire to accelerate the transition to electric. The Stuttgart brand has announced that it wants to offer an electric alternative to all its thermal vehicles by 2025 and has declared the end of its thermal cars before 2030. Its latest announcements do not say anything else, and confirm that failing to have was one of the pioneers in electric vehicles, Mercedes does not intend to miss the revolution.
