Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding dies of cancer at 39

London (CNN) – Sarah Harding, singer of the English band Girls Aloud, passed away at the age of 39 after a battle with breast cancer.

Harding’s mother, Marie, confirmed the news in a post on her daughter’s official Instagram account on Sunday.

“It is with deep anguish that I share with you today the news that my beautiful daughter Sarah sadly passed away. Many of you will know of Sarah’s battle with cancer and that she fought with great strength from her diagnosis to her last day. Harding revealed in August of last year that he had been diagnosed breast cancer. He said he was receiving weekly chemotherapy sessions and doing everything he could to fight the disease.
