(CNN Spanish) – A 58-year-old man of Cuban-American nationality was detained by authorities in Colombia for allegedly abusing and sexually exploiting at least 70 minors, the Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement.
The subject, identified as Abel Fernández, has been accused of commercial sexual exploitation, abusive carnal access, sexual acts and use of minors for the commission of crimes, explained the Prosecutor’s Office.
Until this Sunday, CNN was still trying to find out if Fernández had legal representation and a request for additional information sent to the Prosecutor’s Office had not been answered.
According to the statement, the events occurred in the Sabaneta municipality, Antioquia department, where the man would have lured his victims by offering them sweets and money.
Authorities found evidence in Fernández’s home that he was posing as an English teacher to disguise his illegal practices, the statement explained.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, most of the minors are of limited economic resources, so he took advantage of the situation to attract them with money and then use them to get other young women.
