What Hana Zagorová touched during her career flourished. Many artists have become famous alongside her, but surprisingly, she only has beautiful memories of all her collaborations. For the Italian singer Drupi, with whom she sang the hit Meetings, she even had to be ashamed at certain moments.

He ignored her

In the early eighties, Drupi conquered Europe, so he often gave concerts in what was then Czechoslovakia. At that time, Hana Zagorová ruled over us, so it was only a matter of time before someone put them together. That really happened, but Hana Zagorová was disappointed in the Italian star right at the first meeting. “JI loved the song Vendo Tutto. Later, I even recorded it called Sorry I’m sorry. But instead of the charismatic man I was waiting for, a wreck came. I only saw a drunk man who could barely communicate. He made the move through night Prague and exaggerated it a lot, “The singer recalled after many years.

However, Drupi did not behave like a gentleman even later. After singing the duet Meeting, which became a huge hit with Hanka, the Slovak director Ján Roháč decided to record a joint television recital for the protagonists. One of the sequences also took place at Drupi’s concert. According to the script, Han was to bring flowers to the stage and then they were to sing the hit Sambarió together. “Drupi was afraid that I would ruin his finals, so he didn’t really want to do it. Originally he had to look into the audience and transfer: Here sits Hana and invite me to the stage. But he said nothing. And so, absolutely lost, I walked through the crashing hall up the stairs to the stage, with my back to the audience. Drupi looked neutral. He was silent. I squirmed in my own sweat. Suddenly I turned, waved to the audience, and the hall rumbled. Only then did Drupi say a twig from the script and we sang, “recalls Hanka ‘s unpleasant experience. Many years later, it became clear that she was unfortunately not the only one.

Other shots were taken on horses. Drupi had a stable at home in Italy, so he could also ride. However, Zagor had never ridden a horse before. “It took four hours to get good. Drupi was supposed to shoot the same shots as me so it could be cut, but he only shot two. So all my effort came to naught,“The former disagreist says with bitterness. However, that was not against what happened when they chose to shoot in Moravia.”When the locals found out, they did a killer for us. Janko Roháč wanted us to draw wine from the barrel into the jack. I was lucky and filled it full for the first time. Drupi managed a weak half. It spoiled his mood and he insisted that it be cut. Subsequently, wine and slaughter began to taste. At best, one of Drupi’s henchmen appeared and brought two ordinary Italian table wines, which they began to drink. It was a terrible insult. I was disappointed, “Hana described Drupi ‘s mores in her book Before I Forget It. Drupi can still be seen sporadically on the stage with Hana, for example, she sang with him at the Ball at the Opera and invited him as a guest to one of her concerts in Lucerne.

Just funny

After many decades, Hana Zagorová, even working with her, takes Drupi to heaven. His duet with Hana was invented by the former head of the Pragokoncert agency, Ivo Letov. Drupi also remembers him very well. “He once called me that she is a very famous singer in Czechoslovakia and that she has a song in common for us. It is said that if I am interested, I should come to Prague to hear it. The song wasn’t bad, but I just took it all as a joke. I didn’t see anything important in her filming. I told myself that I would sing it as a gift for Ivo to make him happy. We also sat in the bar with my girlfriend and lyricist Darina Dato and we wrote the Italian part of the text right there. I really didn’t expect that song to become such a hit, “Drupi returned to the past in the book A Little Different Interviews, written by the prestigious Czech publicist Miroslav Graclík.

In an interview that Graclík had with Drupi, he even admitted that he liked Hana Zagorová not only as a singer. “She is great, elegant, pleasant… She did everything with elegance.
