I am really happy for the whole team and for myself. P4 behind both Mercedes and Max is about the best we could hope for. We did a fantastic job all weekend, the car was really good and I had a lot of fun because when the car flies like that it’s always very special. It was really nice.

Your form is amazing right now …

The car seems to work everywhere, in all conditions, in the dry as in the wet, and there is really a good mojo in the team, the mentality, the attitude and the energy as we are fighting against Alpine and it. ‘is probably the best season for the team. They are pushing really hard and it’s really nice.

There were a few highlights today: passing Fernando Alonso and controlling Ferraris.

I must say that [ce dépassement sur Fernando] was really nice. The previous lap, I saw that I was much faster than him in turn 1 and I wanted to surprise him because I knew that I would not have many chances to overtake him. It was really a nice maneuver.

Did you think you would have the pace to control these Ferraris?

We knew it would be possible because it’s extremely difficult to overtake here. But we probably didn’t expect to have the pace to build a gap and manage it so quickly. In some parts of the race we were clearly faster than them and expected them to put a little more pressure. There are a lot of positives to take from this weekend and it’s really good to go to Monza.

You have good memories at Monza last year, do you think you can continue like this?

Yes. The car runs everywhere, so we fight for points all the time. Can we finish ahead of McLarens and Ferraris all the time, I don’t know. […]

A year has passed since the victory. There were some really good races, another podium in Baku this year, I was kinda hoping that something would happen up front so I could taste champagne again. But we still have eight or nine races left, so we’re going to try to make that happen.
