According to Katarína Križanová, spokeswoman for the Presidium of the Fire and Rescue Corps (HaZZ), 15 professional firefighters from Žilina intervened on the spot, freeing the trapped people from crashed vehicles, providing pre-medical first aid to the injured, securing the vehicles against fire and dusting leaking operating fluids. There is also heavy equipment from the HaZZ Rescue Brigade in Žilina at the scene, as the bus is on one of the crashed vehicles.

According to SAD Žilina spokeswoman Ivana Strelcová, the 59-year-old bus driver with a bicycle train, going on a regular line from Turčianske Teplice to Žilina, probably had a heart attack while driving. He went in the opposite direction, where he collided with other vehicles.
