Strong earthquake in China, quake of magnitude 7.4 in the northwest

A strong quake measuring 7.4 on the Richter scale struck Maduo County in the northwestern Chinese province of Qinghai. The quake was recorded at 2:04 am Saturday morning (local time), the Chinese Seismological Center said. The death toll from a series of earthquakes that hit Yangbi Yi county, in the southwestern Chinese province of Yunnan, is at least one dead and 8 injured. The area – according to the Chinese Seismological Center – was hit by a series of successive tremors with a magnitude greater than 5 on the Richter scale (between 21 and 23 local).
