BRATISLAVA. Attorney General Maroš Žilinka should explain to the Committee of the National Council of the Slovak Republic for Culture and the Media why he did not admit selected journalists to Thursday’s press conference.
SaS asked for this, the chairman of the committee Kristián Čekovský (OĽANO) told TASR that the committee should be on Tuesday.
“I asked the chairman of the Committee of the National Council of the Slovak Republic for Culture and Media, Kristián Čekovský, to invite the Attorney General to the next meeting of the committee.
He claims that Žilinka could have violated the press law. According to him, this is also a bad signal not only to the public, but also to the independent media.
“This can no longer be repeated. I believe that Maroš Žilinka, in addition to explaining the whole event, will also apologize to the journalists concerned at the committee,” Foltin added.
Chekovsky agrees that the behavior of the Attorney General towards journalists should be addressed by the Committee on Culture and the Media.
“We informed the Prosecutor General’s Office that the committee should take place on Tuesday, Wednesday at the latest,” he said.
Journalists from the Denník N, SME and Aktuality newsrooms were not admitted to Thursday’s press conference of the GP SR.
Žilinka explained this with the capacity of the room in which the conference took place. The editors-in-chief of the said media sent an open letter to the Attorney General. They rejected a selective approach to journalists. P
they consider it incomprehensible that the Attorney General ignores the press law, which guarantees free access to information for journalists.
