The main hearing with former special prosecutor Dušan Kováčik continues at the Specialized Criminal Court (ŠTS) in Pezinok. He is accused of several crimes. The case is the tenth day. Documentary evidence is being taken.

The single judge stated that witness Matej Zeman justified his absence. As he is currently in Croatia, where he has applied for political asylum, his interrogation could take place at one of the next hearings by telebridge.

The last was discussed during the three days of August (August 11-13). Former Attorney General Jaromír Čižnár, Prosecutor of the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s Office (ÚŠP) Vladimír Kuruc, Csaba D. and businessman Ján Buocik (namesake of the Bratislava city and regional deputy) testified at the court. In addition, documentary evidence was also read.

The defense suggests new evidence

“There are two submissions with annexes. One is a request for release from custody, the other is a relatively extensive proposal to take evidence with annexes. There are some annexes in the form of documentary evidence, and there is also a proposal to hear some other witnesses.” said Dušan Kováčik’s lawyer Erik Magál. They also suggest hearing witnesses who are currently being charged as alleged members of such a criminal group and others. He did not specify the names.

“As far as the documentary evidence we have presented is concerned, these are the minutes of various interrogations of several persons. In our view, these minutes clearly refute the credibility of the cooperating witnesses. the statements made at that main hearing, ‘ stressed that it should also be a matter of credibility of the statement of the former head of the Criminal Office of Financial Administration, Ľudovít Makó.

At the main hearing in July, he claimed that he had given Dušan Kováčik a bribe of 50,000 euros for the fact that the then special prosecutor had to arrange for a complaint against the release of the alleged leader of such people, Ľubomír Kudlička, from filing in 2017.

The National Criminal Agency (NAKA) detained Dušan Kováčik at the end of October last year. He resigned shortly after the indictment. He is charged with the crime of founding, conspiring and supporting a criminal group, the crime of accepting a bribe, the crime of abuse of power by a public official and the offense of endangering a confidential and reserved fact. He has been in custody since October last year.
