The European Kia Sportage from Žilina is finally a reality. It has its own design and modern cockpit – REFRESHER

When the carmaker Kia in early June introduced a brand new Sportage, many mistakenly thought that it was the successor to the European SUV produced in Žilina. However, this was not entirely true, as it has much in common with the European version, but it was a global version that is intended primarily for the American market.

At first glance, the European variant differs mainly by its shorter and more compact body (up to 145 millimeters), but in the intergenerational period it nevertheless increased to a length of 35 millimeters (4,515 mm). The fact that he is a sibling of the Hyundai Tucson concern model also reveals an identical 2,680 mm wheelbase. The design is based on a global model, as evidenced in particular by the massive front grille with atypical full-LED headlights.

Their daylight is in the shape of a vertically oriented boomerang, so you will definitely not miss it on the road. The end, interconnected lights also have a truly unique shape, under which the new large brand logo stands out. Compared to the global model, the European derivative is more compact at the back, otherwise it is aesthetically the same. For the first time in history, Kia will offer a black lacquered roof at an additional cost.

At the center of the dashboard is a specifically curved display that combines digital alarm clocks and a multimedia display, both 12.3 “. The Sportage combines elements of an electric EV6 and a larger Sorent in the cockpit. Kia promises better workmanship, attractive color combinations and a host of state-of-the-art technology. the space of the European version will offer 591 and 1,780 liters, respectively, after folding the seats.

Apart from the basic diesel engine, all Sportage engines have a form of electrification. Most of them are standard in a mild-hybrid configuration, but there is also a 230-horsepower hybrid (44.2 kW electric motor and 1.49 kWh battery) and a 265-horsepower plug-in hybrid (66.9 kW electric motor and 13.8 kWh battery). The complete range of engines is as follows:

1.6 T-GDI MHEV – 110 kW / 150 hp
1.6 T-GDI MHEV – 132 kW / 180 hp
1.6 T-GDI HEV – 169 kW / 230 hp
1.6 T-GDI PHEV – 195 kW / 265 hp
1.6 CRDi – 85 kW / 115 hp
1.6 CRDi (MHEV) – 100 kW / 136 hp

Depending on the version, there is a choice of a 6-stage manual or a 7-stage DCT. Diesel engines can also be paired with a 6-speed Intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT) and all-wheel drive is also available. The car will be presented at the Munich Motor Show. The novelty will go on sale at the beginning of 2022, it will be produced in the plant near Žilina.
