Marseille: Manuel Valls proposes to “shave everything” in sensitive areas – The HuffPost

POLICY – This is called a fanfare start. This Wednesday, September 1, the former prime minister Manuel Valls made his comeback as columnist on BFMTV and RMC, after having officially abandoned his functions as mayor of Barcelona. The opportunity for the former tenant of Matignon to sweep the news of the day and therefore, to evoke theEmmanuel Macron’s trip to Marseille.

And while he had launched in 2015 an investment plan of several hundred million euros in the Marseille city when he was head of government, Manuel Valls now claims to have a simple solution to solve the problems in certain districts of Marseille: to break everything.

Considering the urban specificity of Marseille where sensitive neighborhoods are located “in the heart of the city” and “marked by poverty, inequalities, violence and insecurity” the editorialist justifies this radical measure.

“There, everything has to be shaved. We must rebuild everything, we must repopulate these neighborhoods differently ”, insists Manuel Valls, before adding:“ but that requires a great power of the State ”. Indeed.
