Take the temperature of the social re-entry. Jean Castex receives the social partners from Wednesday 1 to Friday 3 September to discuss current affairs, by posting a “listening posture” which leaves in limbo the intentions of the executive, in particular in terms of pensions.

The Prime Minister opens the ball of these tête-à-tête Wednesday afternoon with the boss of the CFDT, Laurent Berger, then that of Force Ouvrière, Yves Veyrier, before continuing Thursday with, among others, Philippe Martinez (CGT) and Geoffroy Roux de Bézieux (Medef), and to close Friday morning with Benoît Teste, secretary general of the FSU.

Among the most explosive subjects that will have to be raised, we find the pension reform and that of unemployment insurance, against which students and employees will demonstrate on October 5, at the call of an inter-union bringing together the CGT, FO, FSU, Solidaires and youth organizations.

On pension reform, in limbo since the Covid crisis, the government is waiting for the social partners “recall their basic position”, yet already well known, and Matignon sibylline evokes a “exchange on the method”.

Another point of tension with the unions, the reform of unemployment insurance, which the Head of State wants it to be “fully implemented from October 1”. The Council of State had rescinded its application on July 1 by highlighting the “uncertainties about the economic situation”, a barrier that the government now considers lifted.
