The height of a watch: the Apple Watch Series 7 would be late

The Apple Watch Series 7 is not expected to be released at the same time as the iPhone 13. The new smartwatch is said to have some production difficulties.

Apple has a busy schedule for the end of the year, and in particular for the month of September where the firm would have planned several conferences. In addition to his iPhone 13, a Macbook M1X or new ones AirPods, Apple notably plans to launch a new generation of watches Apple Watch, Series 7.

Unfortunately for Apple, production issues would hamper its plans.

A design that is too complex to manufacture

One of the novelties of this Apple Watch Series 7 would be its new design with straight edges taking up what Apple offers on the iPad Pro and the iPhone. Failing to unify its charging connectors, the brand wants at least to make its products look a little more alike, and thus give the impression of being part of the same ecosystem.

According to Nikkei Asia, since corroborated by sources of Bloomberg, Apple would have started producing small samples to test its capabilities and the results would have been disappointing. The adoption of the new design would make it difficult to integrate components on assembly lines, and Apple would now face a production delay.

The new design would not be only to blame: Apple would like to integrate new sensors in its watch, in particular one that would allow the measurement of glucose in the blood, which would have profoundly changed the internal design of the product.

Why does Apple realize that now?

One might find it strange that a machine as well oiled as Apple waits for the start of production tests to notice these kinds of problems. According to the Nikkei, the pandemic would pose a major problem here: Apple engineers are unable to go there to check the specifications of the product and its production.

When will the Apple Watch Series 7 be released?

As it stands, it seems difficult to assess the seriousness of this production delay. If Apple manages to quickly launch mass production of its connected watch, we could even have the right to a presentation of the Apple Watch at the same time as the iPhone, with simply a later release date. The firm has, in the past, already presented products that come out only one or two months later.

If the design issues are bigger, then the Apple Watch might be entitled to its own event later in the year. It now seems too early to estimate that the watch could miss the holiday season, a crucial commercial period for brands.
