(CNN Spanish) – The Government of the State of Mexico reported through a statement that this Tuesday, May 18, the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Mexico fulfilled an arrest warrant issued against a 72-year-old man, in the framework of the investigation for his probable participation in the femicide of a 34-year-old person.
The Government said in the statement that the woman’s remains were found at the home of the arrested person, in the municipality of Atiazapán, more precisely in the basement of the house. The authorities added that they have been able to establish that the victim died and was dismembered there.
During the operation, skeletal remains were also found buried in another of the rooms of the building, in addition to women’s clothing, footwear and bags, notebooks with various names and makeup, among other items, according to the statement.
The Government added that “given the characteristics of the evidence and findings in this place, the possibility that the remains of several victims may be found is not ruled out.” The authorities indicated that some areas of the house have yet to be analyzed.
The operation was carried out jointly by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the General Coordination of Expert Services, the Investigative Police and the Public Ministry of the Feminicide Prosecutor’s Office, as well as firefighters and canine teams from the Municipal Police.
CNN could not yet confirm whether the detainee has an attorney.
