Slovak tennis player Alex Molčan premiered in the main competition at the grand slam tournament. In the first round of singles at the US Open, he defeated Turk Cema Ilkel 4: 6, 6: 3, 6: 1, 6: 1 in a duel between two qualifiers. His next opponent will be the American American Brandon Nakashima, who eliminated the deployed compatriot John Isner.
Molčan lost service in the opening game and Ilkel turned the break into the first set. From the beginning of the second act, however, the finalist of the ATP tournament in Belgrade dominated the New York hard.
Molčan served well, thanks to his great movement he surpassed his opponent in exchanges. In the third and fourth sets, he swept Ilkel from the court and confirmed the great progress of performance.
“I managed today’s match well mentally. I started a little worse, but then I played well. I started playing my game. Ilkel made some unnecessary mistakes, from the beginning of the third set he started to look tired, which I took advantage of. Nakashima is a very good player, he has even strikes and quite good service. I have to prepare well for it and give maximum performance, ” stated for TASR the coach of coach Ladislav Simon.
