The government has knocked down a new nature reserve, it will have almost a thousand hectares – PRAVDA.sk

Another nature reserve will be created in Slovakia – Veľký Bukovec. At the meeting, it was approved by the government at the proposal of the Ministry of the Environment.

The Veľký Bukovec Nature Reserve will be located in the Snina district in the cadastral territory of the municipalities of Nová Sedlica, Runina, Ruský potok, Ruské, Topoľa, Uličské Krivé and Zboj. Its total area will reach almost 974 hectares.

The reservation will be divided into two zones – zone A and zone B. Zone A will reach a total area of ​​more than 270 hectares and will be subject to the strictest, fifth degree of protection. In zone B, the fourth degree of protection will apply, its size will reach more than 703 hectares. The protection zone of the nature reserve will be more than 4,986 hectares.

Habitats of European importance, which are important for the life of certain species of animals of European and national importance, are the subject of protection in the nature reserve. For example, rare species of birds live in the area, such as the mountain elm, the white-backed woodpecker, the black carpenter, the long-tailed owl and the sparrowhawk. Among the animals in this area it is possible to observe, for example, the lynx, the wolf of prey, the brown bear, the maned bison, the alpine beard and the Carpathian salamander.

The government decree declaring the Veľký Bukovec nature reserve will enter into force on 15 September.
