In Paris, they drive from Monday at a ‘maximum’ of 30 km / h! – PRAVDA.sk

The restriction, approved by Paris in July, is intended to strengthen road safety, reduce noise and help combat the climate crisis. The French daily Le Figaro informs about it.

The French capital is thus joining about 200 other cities in the country where such a restriction already applies. Among them are, for example, Montpellier, Grenoble or Strasbourg, the LCI television network reported. Only a few major routes, such as the Marshal’s Boulevards (22 boulevards along the outskirts of Paris) and the Champs Elysées, will avoid restriction. The decision was preceded by a public survey organized by the city at the end of 2020.

It was attended by 5,736 people, of whom 59 percent were in favor of lowering the speed limit, according to the city of Paris. The measure has provoked controversy regarding, among other things, environmental impacts. A recent study by the Cerema Institute confirms that at a speed of 30 km / h the level of pollution is higher than at a constant speed of 50 km / h. However, this is not the case in cities, where there is frequent acceleration and deceleration. Other drivers, in turn, expressed anger and misunderstanding.

The latest decision is part of a wider package of measures aimed at reducing the presence of vehicles in the city. From August 1 this year in several places in the city began to significantly increase parking prices. The amount of fines for parking has also increased, up to 75 euros in central parts of the city. Paris Mayor Anne Hidalg, who took office in 2016, has pledged to reduce public space used by cars. Since then, it has changed several roads to one-way or turned them into a pedestrian zone.
