Will Kovařík resign himself? Mikulec admitted that he would put him out of service – PRAVDA.sk

Interior Minister Roman Mikulec (OĽANO) will take further steps against Police President Peter Kovařík. According to him, one of the solutions is to be out of service, but the conditions for that must be met.

Mikulec also reiterated on Monday that he trusts the head of the police and is convinced that he did not stop the police action. The minister is to meet with Kovařík on Monday. According to him, it is possible that Kovařík will resign himself, but he did not want to speculate about it.

According to the Minister of the Interior, the status of a member of the Police Force (PZ) out of service has rules. “We will talk about it and I will decide with regard to the fact that the position outside the active service of a PZ member has certain rules by law. If the conditions are met for him to be built outside the active service, of course, this is also one of the solutions, “said Mikulec at a press conference in the parliament building.

Mikulec considers the escape of the resolution on Kovařík’s accusation to be “not entirely fair”, but rather purposeful. According to him, this can be considered a failure of the prosecutor’s office. “We will wait for the next steps of the General Prosecutor’s Office,” he said.

The Minister is convinced that Kovařík did not abuse the authority of a public official or stop the police action. “The police action was not interrupted or stopped, only the activity of the intervention unit was interrupted, which was deployed in violation of the internal regulations of the PZ,” he reminded, adding that he trusts the authorities active in criminal proceedings.

The committee is likely to be on 7 September

The meeting of the Committee of the National Council of the Slovak Republic for Defense and Security, at which Kovařík should explain the situation around his accusation, should be on Tuesday, September 7. The chairman of the committee, Juraj Krúpa (OĽANO), told reporters on Monday. Krúpa considers the escape of the resolution on Kovařík’s accusation to be purposeful.

Krúpa wants to convene the committee as soon as possible, but according to him, it will not be possible until next week, probably on Tuesday, September 7. He sees the escape of the resolution as an attempt to discredit the police president, and sees it as purposeful. He does not consider that there may have been a source of escape other than the prosecutor’s office. In the accusation of the police president, there are things that do not suit Krup, he perceives them as weak. “The allegations have nothing to rely on,” he added. According to him, Kovařík has the right to explain things. “That’s why the committee will be convened to explain,” he said.

Also the coalition council

Coalition leaders at the coalition council are also scheduled to talk about Kovařík on Monday. This was announced by the chairman of the parliamentary group Sme rodina Peter Pčolinský. The fact that Kovařík is not built out of service is perceived by Pčolinský as a problem. He considers this to be a double standard, given that the investigator of the Office of the Inspection Service Diana Santusová was, according to him, placed out of service only because the Minister wanted to check something else.

On Thursday (August 26), the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Bratislava accused Kovařík of the crime of abusing the powers of a public official in connection with the crime of obstructing justice. He was supposed to thwart the ongoing detention intervention, as well as the performance of criminal proceedings with the accused persons Matej Z. and Peter P. Kovařík rejects the accusation.

The chief of police called on the prosecutor’s office to prosecute the leak of the document accusing him of the public. He pointed out that he had not handed over, copied or published the resolution to anyone.
