The Pope’s visit to Slovakia is scheduled for September 12-15. Before that, however, the Holy Father will head for Hungarian soil. This has been used by some parishes and they organize bus tours to our southern neighbors. The Conference of Bishops of Slovakia also knows about this. “I know about ten buses from Slovakia so far, I’m sure many people will go individually. I don’t know the exact numbers,” KBS spokesman Martin Kramara told Topky.sk.

In Hungary, less strict measures apply during the Pope’s visit than in Slovakia. In our country, only those who are fully vaccinated will be able to come and see the Holy Father. The Ministry of Health explained this measure so that as many people as possible could go to the event, but at the same time the risk of spreading the coronavirus was eliminated. In addition, it is necessary to register for individual events in advance and then receive a ticket.

In Hungary, however, the rules are different. There, Pope Francis, who will celebrate Holy Mass at the Eucharistic Congress in Budapest on September 12, will be available to everyone, including those who could not be vaccinated.

Even a negative test will not be required of visitors. KBS is not aware of whether at least our parishes will request it from the participants of these tours. However, spokesman Martin Kramara emphasized that it should not be forgotten that in both cases, ie in Slovakia and Hungary, the conditions regarding the measures were not determined by the church, but by the state.

However, they are not concerned that such tours could cause less interest in the Holy Father’s subsequent visit to Slovakia. “We encourage people if they have the opportunity to go to the Eucharistic Congress in Budapest. It was supposed to be last year, we encouraged then, but then it was canceled due to the pandemic. The Congress is a wonderful event of the Catholic faith. And it’s not a competition where it comes “Whoever has the opportunity to go to both events, let him go; we look forward to whoever chooses one of them will certainly have a valuable spiritual experience, whether in Budapest or Šaštín, in Prešov or in Košice,” said Kramara.

With us, it is possible to register for the liturgy in Prešov, the Pope’s visit to the Luník IX housing estate in Košice, a meeting with young people at the Lokomotiva Stadium in Košice or the Holy Mass in Šaštín.
