Two fires ravage pine forests in the Landes, an evacuated campsite – France 3 Régions

A fire in Mimizan and another in Seignosse broke out in the middle of the afternoon this Saturday. The flames spread quickly, fanned by a sustained wind. The authorities have decided to evacuate a campsite as a precaution.

The most important fire is the one located in the town of Seignosse in the south of the department.

80 firefighters and 18 trucks were sent to the scene around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.

At 7 p.m. it was still “in free propagation“indicates the operational fire and rescue center of the Landes and around forty hectares have already burned. Clearly, it is spreading in all directions and is not yet contained.

The departmental road 189 was cut off to traffic.

The work of the firefighters is all the more difficult as a strong enough wind blows on the coast.

“A threatened campsite is being evacuated“adds Officer Codis who hopes to see two Canadairs from the south-east arrive as reinforcements.

⚠️Two fires are in progress between Escource and Mimizan and between Seignosse and Soustons. SDIS40 firefighters and the gendarmerie are currently engaged to control the fires. For your safety, avoid the RD 189 in the Etang Blanc sector in Seignosse.

About sixty kilometers further north, in Mimizan, 100 hectares of 25-year-old pine forests are threatened. The fire started around 4 p.m. on the edge of a Travelers’ camp and 60 firefighters are on site.

There too the wind is unfavorable. It would push the flames towards Bias to the south. The caravan camp was evacuated.

The prefect, Cécile Bigot-Dekeyzer, must go there in the evening. An investigation has been opened.
