For the first day of its summer campus, in Blois, the Socialist Party staged the convergence between a probable candidacy and the expectations of activists. Even if it has not yet launched officially, it was necessary to give a scent of evidence to the investiture of Anne Hidalgo. Welcomed early by the first secretary, Olivier Faure, the mayor of Paris was the center of attention before delivering herself, in the evening, in front of the monumental staircase of the castle of François Ier, to a quasi-candidacy speech in front of the Socialist members called to consecrate it during an upcoming internal primary.
There were a few gray areas in this unanimous picture. The mayor of Le Mans Stéphane Le Foll, in the running for the presidential nomination, paced the forecourt of Place Jean-Jaurès for a long time to castigate the lack of debate, the “Fear of heights” which explains according to him that the majority of the party lines up behind the councilor. “All these young people that I have known have become very contemptuous”, remarked the former minister of agriculture. A few steps away, the only declared competitor to Olivier Faure for the renewal of her mandate as first secretary, Helène Geoffroy, criticized the“Inanity” national offices “Deserted” and lack of consultation.
Anne Hidalgo and her Areopagus kept a safe distance from these quarrels. We just heard the mayor react to the first secretary’s proposal for an internal primary: “Seems like a very good choice to me. “ Focusing on multilateralism, the round table chosen by the mayor took her away from national issues. At his side, the former Italian Prime Minister, Enrico Letta, was there with his strong wink: “Of course, we would be delighted if you continued in Paris, but maybe, I don’t know…” In the evening, the mayor of Blois, Marc Gricourt, went harder: “The kings of France, this is their second residence here… Anne, you are at home here! “
The muted debate, in any case, allowed him to promote his action as mayor. As if the capital were a springboard towards a national destiny. “António Guterres [le secrétaire général des Nations unies] told me, the multilateralism of cities is shaking up that of States… ”, she theorized. And to plead for an international tribunal to judge crimes of ecocide, or a new European commitment on the climate or the issue of refugees. On the other hand, she did not say a word about the 66 pages of the socialist project, its hundred or so proposals, partly unveiled by the deputy of the Landes Boris Vallaud and called to be amended before the congress of September 18 and 19, in Villeurbanne (Rhône ).
