WASHINGTON. The US Secret Service has reached a “broad agreement” that the new coronavirus was not developed as a biological weapon.
However, the US intelligence community does not yet agree on its origins.
However, they are convinced that China’s leaders did not know about the virus before the global pandemic began.
No specific conclusion
This follows from a declassified report published on Friday, which was drafted by the President of the USA Joe Biden and cited AFP and AP.
Four organizations from the US Secret Service supported the theory of human transmission after contact with the animal, one organization identified a leak from the laboratory as a probable cause of the spread of the virus, and analysts from three agencies failed to reach any specific conclusion.
White House chief Biden on Friday criticized Beijing for withholding “crucial information” about the origin of the virus, which has so far affected nearly 4.5 million people in the world.
Clinical specimens are missing
Researchers and the intelligence community lack clinical specimens and epidemiological data on early cases of COVID-19, AFP said.
“There is crucial information in the People’s Republic of China about the origins of this pandemic, and yet government officials in China have been working since the beginning to prevent international investigators and members of the global public health community from accessing them,” Biden said in a statement.
He added that Beijing continued to reject calls for transparency and was unwilling to provide the necessary information, despite the fact that the number of victims of covid was still rising.
He stressed, however, that the United States, along with its allies, will continue to put pressure on Beijing to provide access to information and work with the World Health Organization.
Criticism from China
The Chinese embassy in Washington has criticized the findings of the secret services. According to the embassy, the report “incorrectly” claims that China continues to obstruct the investigation.
“The report of the American intelligence community shows that the USA is determined to go the wrong way of political manipulation,” the embassy said in a statement on Friday.
