A group of 20 Afghans with ties to Slovak citizens, whose transport from Kabul was to be provided by a Norwegian evacuation plane, failed to reach the airport.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Ivan Korčok, informed about it on Facebook on Friday.

“Unfortunately, just a short time ago we received word that this group had failed to pass through the Taliban checkpoint, which made it impossible for them to reach the airport under dramatic circumstances and under armed threat,” Korčok said.

According to him, on Friday afternoon along the diplomatic line, Slovakia managed to secure 20 seats in a Norwegian evacuation plane, which was to bring this group to Tbilisi. A special was prepared in the capital of Georgia, which was then to be transported to Slovakia. However, a group of Afghans eventually failed to reach Kabul Airport.

“I am sincerely sorry all the more because we were able to equip seats on the plane, but we do not know how to influence the situation on the ground, and yesterday’s terrorist attack also showed that this is life,” Korčok added, according to which the Taliban are breaking their promise. that the evacuations will continue until 31 August. “Unfortunately, even such a situation is brought about by the drama at Kabul Airport,” added the head of Slovak diplomacy.
