Tropical storm Ida strengthens and becomes a hurricane

(CNN) – Data from an Air Force Recon plane reported that Tropical Storm Ida became a hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 120 km / h, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The storm is very close to the Isle of Youth, or approximately 250 kilometers east of the western tip of Cuba. Further strengthening is forecast and Ida is expected to become a major Category 3 or higher storm over the weekend in the Gulf of Mexico.
