Laurent Wauquiez during the presentation of the nurseries installed in the Region in 2018 – LyonMag
The president of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region also learned that the administrative court of appeal of Lyon rejected the request of the French League for the defense of human and citizen rights. The latter continued its battle in the name of secularism against the installation of Christmas cribs in the Hôtel de Région in December 2017.
But like the administrative court in 2018, the administrative court of appeal ruled in favor of Laurent Wauquiez, citing the “plurality of meanings” of the nursery and believing that the exhibition was not “an act of proselytism or a religious claim”.
Faced with the controversy triggered at Christmas 2017, Laurent Wauquiez had cunning by renewing the installation of nurseries in the hall of the Confluence building, but as part of an exhibition dedicated to the art of santonniers in the Auvergne and Rhône-Alpes region. This gives him an implacable argument, noted by the administrative court of appeal in its decision communicated this Thursday.
The French League for the Defense of Human and Citizen’s Rights, for its part, considered that this exhibition “also violates the principles of non-financing of religions and neutrality of the public service”. In addition to seeing her request rejected, she is also ordered to pay 1000 euros to the Region for the costs incurred.
